{"id":4712,"date":"2025-11-28T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/news\/national-training-workshop-for-community-relays-and-eco-guards-for-sustainable-management-of-the-mono-basin\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T16:02:30","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T15:02:30","slug":"national-training-workshop-for-community-relays-and-eco-guards-for-sustainable-management-of-the-mono-basin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/fr\/news\/national-training-workshop-for-community-relays-and-eco-guards-for-sustainable-management-of-the-mono-basin\/","title":{"rendered":"National Training Workshop for Community Relays and Eco-Guards for Sustainable Management of the Mono Basin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This activity is part of the <b>RIWE-Mono Project (2024\u20132028)<\/b>, implemented by the <b>Mono Basin Authority (ABM)<\/b>, the <b>Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS)<\/b>, IUCN and the <b>Global Water Partnership \u2013 West Africa (GWP-WA), and funded by @TheGEF<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacities of community actors for <b>integrated management of natural resources<\/b>, particularly water, and to promote sustainable practices in the Mono Biosphere Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop brought together <b>34 participants<\/b>, including representatives from ABM, community biodiversity conservation associations (ACCB), forestry services, GWP-WA, PNE Benin, and resource persons.<\/p>\n<p><b>Content and Methodology<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Over four days, participants attended interactive modules on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Environmental communication and awareness<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Conflict management related to natural resources<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Planning, conservation, and ecological monitoring<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Surveillance and protection of protected areas<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Regulations and ecotourism<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The workshop combined presentations, group work, case studies, and field visits, fostering participatory and practical learning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2026\/04\/iree_mono_ecogarde-1.jpg\" height=\"346\" width=\"640\"><\/p>\n<p><b>Innovative Practical Exercise<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A highlight of the training was the <b>application exercise using ecological monitoring tools<\/b>, including <b>drones<\/b> and <b>camera traps<\/b> for wildlife monitoring and surveillance of sensitive areas. This technological approach aims to improve observation accuracy and strengthen community capacity to protect biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p><b>Expected Results<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of community relays and eco-guards.<\/li>\n<li>Development of a <b>post-training roadmap<\/b> for leveraging acquired knowledge.<\/li>\n<li>Awarding of certificates to participants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This workshop marks an important step in preserving the ecosystems of the Mono Basin by strengthening collaboration between local communities and regional
