The main goals were to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Present and discuss draft versions of Deliverables 2 and 3 from the environmental capital and ecosystem services assessment mission;<\/li>\n<li>Gather technical and strategic input from stakeholders to enrich and validate the deliverables;<\/li>\n<li>Co-develop a roadmap for finalizing the mission and guiding future activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2026\/04\/reward_bko_ht-1.jpg\" height=\"300\" width=\"640\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Deliverables Reviewed<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Deliverable 2<\/b>: Inventory and mapping of ecosystems in the basin, gender\u2013water\u2013environment analysis, spatio-temporal dynamics, and identification of major threats.<\/li>\n<li><b>Deliverable 3<\/b>: Critical analysis of existing assessment tools and proposal of a harmonized methodology for evaluating ecosystem services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Strong Regional Mobilization<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The workshop brought together 35 participants from the six basin countries (Ghana, Togo, C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Benin, Mali, Burkina Faso), including representatives from national water and environment institutions, gender focal points, universities, technical and financial partners, and project coordination teams. Sessions alternated between presentations, debates, and group work, fostering a bilingual (French\/English), inclusive, and participatory environment.<\/p>\n<p><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2026\/04\/reward_bko_part-1.jpg\" height=\"300\" width=\"640\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Principaux r\u00e9sultats<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Technical improvements to the deliverables were identified and collectively validated.<\/li>\n<li>A technical follow-up group was established to ensure scientific and operational coherence.<\/li>\n<li>A shared roadmap was adopted to guide the next steps of the mission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Strong Messages for Regional Cooperation<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The opening ceremony was chaired by Mali\u2019s Minister of Energy and Water, Mr. Boubacar DIAN\u00c9, alongside Mr. Robert Dessouassi, Executive Director of the VBA, and Mr. Sidi Coulibaly, Acting Executive Secretary of GWP-WA. The Minister emphasized \u201cthe importance of this process for preserving ecosystems and enhancing community resilience to climate challenges,\u201d noting that the five REWaRD events in Bamako form \u201can institutional continuum\u2014from science to decision-making, citizen dialogue to political coordination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Dessouassi called for \u201csynergistic action to reverse the degradation trend,\u201d while Mr. Coulibaly reaffirmed \u201cthe network\u2019s commitment to supporting integrated water resources governance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2026\/04\/reward_bko_roompart-1.jpg\" height=\"300\" width=\"640\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Toward Sustainable Governance<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This workshop marks a key milestone in implementing innovative transboundary actions outlined in the Volta Basin Strategic Action Programme. It contributes to water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development in West Africa\u2014anchored in knowledge, cooperation, and community
