It is a vital resource for agriculture, energy, fishing, tourism, and biodiversity. However, the basin faces major challenges: resource degradation, flow variability, recurrent floods and droughts, demographic pressure, and climate change.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the IREE-Mono Project\u2014funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) with a budget of USD 5 million\u2014aims to restore ecosystems, strengthen community resilience, and promote integrated water resource management.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2026\/04\/abm_crp_2025_ht-1.jpg\" height=\"300\" width=\"640\"><\/p>\n<p><b>Inclusive and Multisectoral Implementation<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Coordinated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the project is implemented by three agencies: MBA, the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS), and the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA). It also engages the water and environment ministries of both countries, basin committees, women\u2019s organizations, civil society platforms, and GEF focal points.<\/p>\n<p><b>The meeting objectives are: <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To present and adopt the implementation report of AWPB 1 (October 2024 \u2013 October 2025).<\/li>\n<li>To identify challenges and validate proposed solutions.<\/li>\n<li>To review and approve AWPB 2.<\/li>\n<li>To formulate recommendations for effective implementation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2026\/04\/abm_crp_2025_salle-1.jpg\" height=\"300\" width=\"640\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>A Structuring Project for Transboundary Cooperation<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Through its three components\u2014strategic planning, capacity building, and knowledge management\u2014the RIWE-Mono Project seeks to equip the basin with a robust governance framework, participatory planning tools, and pilot actions for climate resilience. Key targets include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Restoration of 2,500 hectares of degraded forest land<\/li>\n<li>Improved management of 261,150 hectares of protected areas<\/li>\n<li>Direct involvement of over 20,000 beneficiaries, 50% of whom are women<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This annual RSC meeting marks a decisive step in consolidating regional efforts for sustainable and inclusive management of the Mono River Basin.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2026\/04\/abm_crp_2025_sr-1.jpg\" height=\"300\" width=\"640\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Mono River Basin Authority (MBA) is convening the third meeting of the Regional Steering Committee (RSC) of the RIWE-Mono Project on 29\u201330 October 2025 at the Novela Star Hotel in Lom\u00e9, Togo.
