The Integrated Drought Management Project (IDMP) is a joint initiative of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Global Water Partnership (GWP)), which was launched on 13 March 2013. This joint initiative aims to improve the monitoring and prevention of drought, one of the largest natural hazards in the world.<\/p>\n
In West Africa, we know that the Sahel is facing since nearly forty years drought cycles at least every ten years. And information is not always available to the populations concerned to cope with the situation. The Integrated Drought Management Project focuses on sharing scientific information, knowledge and best practices to better inform policy makers and managers.
The project implementation is planned for three (03) years from 2015 and will cover the three countries that are Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali for specific actions. However, knowledge sharing and capacity building actions will be extended to all countries in West Africa.
The main targets of this project are regional institutions in West Africa, government institutions and professionals working in the field of drought management and the beneficiary communities of pilot projects.<\/p>\n
IDMP partners, besides the two pioneering institutions, GWP and WMO, are the countries covered, the Permanent Interstate Committee for the Fight against Drought in the Sahel (CILSS), AGRHYMET the specialized Regional Centre of CILSS, CAPNET, the ECOWAS Water Resources Coordination Centre (WRCC \/ ECOWAS), ACMAD, the Niger Basin Authority (NBA), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the WASCAL (West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) and the Institute of the Sahel (INSAH).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
