To address these issues, the <strong>Volta Basin Authority (VBA)<\/strong>, supported by the <strong>Global Environment Facility (GEF)<\/strong> and partners such as <strong>UNEP<\/strong>, <strong>IUCN<\/strong>, and <strong>GWP-WA<\/strong>, is implementing the <strong>REWarD \u2013 Volta River Basin Project<\/strong>. This project aims to reverse ecosystem degradation and promote transboundary governance and community resilience.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2026\/04\/ghana_cnu_ht-1.jpg\" height=\"427\" width=\"640\">The Bolgatanga workshop marked a key milestone under <strong>Component 2<\/strong> of the REWarD project, which focuses on strengthening regional and national coordination. Led by the consulting firm <strong>BERAC<\/strong>, the mission began with mapping and preselection efforts that identified user organizations across the basin. In Ghana, this process culminated in the validation of representative organizations, adoption of constitutive texts, and the launch of formal recognition procedures.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Workshop Highlights and Objectives<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The workshop successfully achieved the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Validation of the national report<\/strong>on mapping and characterization of natural resource users in Ghana.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Approval of a provisional capacity-building and work plan<\/strong>for the newly formed coordination.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Formal establishment of the National Users\u2019 Coordination (NUC)<\/strong> in Ghana.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Presentation and validation of representative organizations<\/strong>by sector and territory.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adoption of constitutive texts and internal regulations<\/strong> for the NUC.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Initiation of the official recognition process<\/strong> with administrative authorities<b>.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the end of the workshop, a representative executive committee of 11 members was established to lead the National Users\u2019 Coordination. It is chaired by Mr. Salifu YIDANA from the West Mamprusi District on the White Volta.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2026\/04\/ghana_cnu_executive-office-1.jpg\" height=\"415\" width=\"640\">This effort ensures that diverse user groups\u2014such as farmers, fishers, canoeists, irrigators, miners, and artisans, many of whom are women\u2014are formally represented in the governance of the Volta Basin\u2019s natural resources.<\/p>\n<p>The establishment of the NUC in Ghana is a critical step toward empowering local communities, enhancing coordination, and ensuring the sustainable management of shared water resources across the basin.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/afrique-ouest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2026\/04\/ghana_cnu_roomp-1.jpg\" height=\"427\" width=\"640\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bolgatanga, Ghana \u2013 15 July 2025<br \/>\nIn a significant step toward inclusive and sustainable water governance, Ghana has officially launched its National Coordination of Users of Natural Resources in the Volta Basin.
