Within the framework of the VFDM project activities, it is planned to develop an e-learning programme (based on the WMO and GWP programmes on flood and drought management while considering the hydrometeorological and socio-economic conditions of the target areas) and to organize training activities at regional and national levels.<\/p>\n
In response to the problems of flooding and drought in the Volta Basin, WMO, VBA, GWP-WA and the relevant national structures of the VBA Member States are implementing the Volta Flood and Drought Management (VFDM) project entitled ”Integrating Flood and Drought Management and Early Warning for Climate Change Adaptation in the Volta Basin” from June 2019 to mid-2023. The VFDM project is financed by the Adaptation Fund to build the capacity of hydrometeorological service providers in end-to-end flood and drought early warning system (EWS). The implementation of the VFDM project involves the active participation of national agencies (National Meteorological and Hydrological Services – NMHSs -, water resources, water resources protection, civil protection, etc.) and WMO partners, such as CIMA Research Foundation, Italian Civil Protection, UNITAR\/UNOSAT, IUCN and CERFE, etc.<\/p>\n
The fifth distance learning course is on: “dissemination, decision support and response to early warning of floods and drought”.<\/p>\n
This series of e-learning courses is aimed at professionals from the six countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, C\u00f4te d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali and Togo) of the Volta basin and at the regional level, providers of hydrometeorological services (NMHSs, international\/regional organizations and research) and users (in charge of civil protection, disaster management, water resources management and other various associated disciplines) of the VOLTALARM end-to-end forecasting and EWS chain for floods and droughts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
A technical workshop was held from 20 October to 3 November 2022 in Koubri to finalize the modules and other materials for the 5th online course. The distance or e-learning includes different courses covering the whole value chain of the end-to-end early warning system for flood forecasting (E2E-EWS-FF) and the three pillars of drought management. Four online courses have already been organized from September 2021 to November
