{"id":1215,"date":"2026-04-14T22:56:31","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T21:56:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/caribbean\/?page_id=1215"},"modified":"2026-04-14T22:56:32","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T21:56:32","slug":"about-capacity-building","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/caribbean\/about-capacity-building\/","title":{"rendered":"About Capacity Building"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/assets\/legacy\/contentassets\/024bf300b9df4346821a7f8ba5679e6e\/31965905393_bce3d7befb_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Capacity building \u2013 at the individual, institutional, and societal levels \u2013 is an important means to further IWRM principles and boost the overall quality of water governance structures.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GWP\u2019s capacity building initiatives are aimed at supporting beneficiaries in: (1) understanding the obstacles that prevent them from fully realizing their development goals; and (2) finding the appropriate mechanisms in overcoming the challenges identified. Capacity building does not necessarily refer to a one-off intervention; it is an ongoing process that involves continuous rounds of stakeholder engagement, evaluation and readjustments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GWP\u2019s Capacity Building Initiatives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building capacity is integral to GWP\u2019s mission to achieve water security. The objective of GWP\u2019s capacity building activities fall into two broad categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>IWRM Capacity Building<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 focuses on water governance from a holistic (IWRM) point of view. It is therefore concerned with raising awareness on the enabling environment, the institutional arrangements, and management instruments that support good water governance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thematic Capacity Building<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 explores key critical challenges to water security and introduces dimensions of IWRM which can bring solutions to the specific issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;GWP collaborates with a wide range of international, regional and local&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gwp.org\/About-GWP\/Partners\/meet-our-partners\/\">partners<\/a>&nbsp;in providing capacity building which responds to the needs of the beneficiaries. Capacity building activities are carried out in GWP\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gwp.org\/en\/About-GWP\/Regional-Water-Partnerships\/\">regions<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gwp.org\/en\/About-GWP\/Country-Water-Partnerships\/\">countries<\/a>&nbsp;with individuals and organisations at all levels \u2013 e.g., from farming associations to national
