It is about taking action to tackle the global sanitation crisis and achieve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/water-and-sanitation\/\">Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation<\/a> for all by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>The 2021 World Toilet Day theme is <b><i>\u201cValuing Toilets\u201d<\/i><\/b> and looks closely at the topic <strong>\u201cWho cares about toilets?\u201d<\/strong> The reality is that we should all care about toilets! Life without a toilet is dirty, dangerous and undignified. Public health depends on toilets. Toilets also drive improvements in gender equality, education, economics and the environment.<\/p>\n<p>To build the awareness and capacity of Caribbean children about the critical importance of toilets, the GWP-C is pleased to be partnering with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flushwash.org\/\">FLUSH (<b>F<\/b>acilitated <b>L<\/b>earning for <b>U<\/b>niversal <b>S<\/b>anitation and <b>H<\/b>ygiene)<\/a> who will facilitate the following two (2) courses on November 20<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021:<\/p>\n<h4><b>Toilet Basics (For ages 7 \u2013 10)<\/b><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Date &amp; Time: November 20<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021 | 9:00 a.m. \u2013 11:00 a.m. AST<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>This is a cartoon-animated 120-minute event to teach young students the basics about toilets. It will cover some of the essentials about how toilets work, and what kinds of different toilets people may see in different settings.<\/p>\n<p><b>In this class, students will learn: <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why we have toilets in the first place (it&#8217;s about health and the environment).<\/li>\n<li>What kinds of things can get flushed into toilets (and why).<\/li>\n<li>What happens after we flush the toilet \u2013 including sewers, septic tanks, and pit latrines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After learning about how toilets work, students will spend time designing their own toilets \u2013 from start to finish. Finally, students will share their designs with the class and learn how their toilets would work in the real world. No experience is necessary for learning about this class, though an interest in toilets is encouraged.<\/p>\n<h4><b>Toilets and the Environment (For ages 13 \u2013 16)<\/b><\/h4>\n<h4><b>Date &amp; Time: November 20<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021 | 1:00 p.m. \u2013 2:00 p.m. AST<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>This is a one-time 60-minute class for young students interested in learning how the environment and toilets are related. They will learn about some basic environmental science concepts and how toilets (and poo) influence our world.<\/p>\n<p><b>In this class, students will learn:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The differences and similarities of pollution, global warming, and climate change.<\/li>\n<li>How our pee and poo can contribute to environmental problems, and why.<\/li>\n<li>How toilets can help fight environmental degradation and climate change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students will be asked questions about what they know, interact with new concepts, and ask questions they may have throughout the class. A handout sheet for students will be provided to use during the class to help internalise key concepts and takeaways. An interest in the environment is encouraged, and basic environmental science knowledge is helpful.<\/p>\n<p><b>Important to Note:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Only 40 places will be made available per course <b>(this is at no cost).<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Places will be provided on a first come first served basis.<\/li>\n<li>Only successful candidates will be contacted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Requirements:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be between the ages (7 \u2013 10) or (13 &#8211; 16).<\/li>\n<li>Be a national and resident from any of the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Guyana, Montserrat,
