The University of Guyana (UG)<\/a> and the Montserrat Utilities Limited (MUL)<\/a> have each secured grant funding from the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) to implement a small-scale Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)<\/strong> project in their respective countries.<\/p>\n

The awarded grants, come as a result of the successful selection of concepts notes submitted by UG and the MUL in a \u201cCall for Concept Notes\u201d by GWP-C in collaboration with the UNEP Cartagena Convention Secretariat\/Caribbean Environment Programme (CEP). The Call which is open until August 31st, 2021, <\/b>specifically targets GWP-C Partners<\/a> who wish to execute short-term IWRM or Integrated Water Resources and Wastewater Management (IWWM) projects in the Caribbean. UG and MUL are the first two (2) GWP-C Partner organisations that will receive funding under the Call.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Within a period of five (5) months, The University of Guyana (UG)<\/b> will use the grant to carry out a project strongly aimed at improving water-related governance structures and processes in Guyana by promoting IWRM in an effective, efficient and environmentally sustainable manner that will safeguard the nation’s water resources.<\/p>\n

This will be achieved largely through strategic awareness raising activities and associated knowledge products on the existing threats to water resources and the importance of IWRM. Under the project, the UG also intends to establish a national multi-stakeholder body that supports and collaborates on IWRM.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Montserrat Utilities Limited (MUL)<\/b> will also execute their project within a 5-month period. MUL\u2019s project will focus on ensuring a consistent supply of power and enhanced energy efficiency at specific water pump stations in Montserratt. This will be done with the introduction of an automatic transfer switch (ATS) at stations. All pump stations are electronically powered and the ATS will guarantee that tanks maintain the level of water required to supply communities; prevent electrical damages due to on-going power outages; and prevent human contact with equipments at the pump station.<\/p>\n
