{"id":1003,"date":"2026-02-24T14:07:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T14:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/cee\/?page_id=1003"},"modified":"2026-04-24T11:34:42","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T10:34:42","slug":"danube-art-master-dam","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/cee\/work-areas\/youth-engagement-and-education\/danube-art-master-dam\/","title":{"rendered":"Danube Art Master (DAM)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-0-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-2613bcdb58d16f943f427ae08ff38de7\"><strong>The purpose of this contest is to encourage children and teenagers, citizens of a country within the Danube river basin, to pay more attention to the watercourse in their area, reflect on environmental issues, and thus create original artistic works to promote the Danube region.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Duration:<\/strong> The project has been running annually since 2004 and continues to this day, with a new edition organized every year (e.g. Danube Art Master 2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Funding mechanism:<\/strong> The project is supported through partnerships and institutional cooperation, primarily between the Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) and the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR). In recent editions, private-sector partners (e.g. Erste Group) have also contributed to supporting environmental education activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Status:<\/strong> Ongoing project<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Danube Art Master is an international environmental art competition for children and young people aged 6\u201318 from countries in the Danube River Basin. Participants are encouraged to visit their local river (ideally the Danube or one of its tributaries) and create artistic works such as drawings, photographs, or videos inspired by the river and its surroundings. The project raises awareness of water protection, biodiversity, and environmental responsibility through creative expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-ca51e028 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/cee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/02\/1200x675-DAM-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"uag-image-1005\" width=\"1200\" height=\"576\" title=\"1200x675 DAM\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"img\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-6-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-374890fde916ab45374071f25081deed\"><strong>Project\u202fobjectives\u202f:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To strengthen young people\u2019s connection to the Danube River and its ecosystems through art and creativity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To encourage children and youth to explore, observe and reflect on environmental values related to local rivers and water bodies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To provide a platform for international exchange and cooperation among young participants across the Danube River Basin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-6-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7516b97925e2edaada725e6fbd63aa23\"><strong>Role of GWP CEE in the project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) <\/strong>acts as a <strong>co-organizer and regional coordinator o<\/strong>f the Danube Art Master project in close cooperation with <strong>the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR)<\/strong>. GWP CEE supports the overall project coordination, communication of competition rules across participating countries, engagement of national partners, and dissemination of results, including exhibitions and award ceremonies. Through its involvement, GWP CEE helps position the project in an international context, strengthens cross-border cooperation, and contributes to increasing environmental awareness and water stewardship among young generations in the Danube River Basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-6-color has-text-color has-link-color
