Beyond artistic expression, the competition plays an important role in building long-term awareness of water-related challenges and opportunities.

Global Water Partnership, in cooperation with the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, has been organizing the international youth competition Danube Art Master (DAM) across the Danube River Basin.

The outcomes of DAM go far beyond the competition itself. By engaging young people at an early age, it helps foster a sense of responsibility and stewardship towards water resources, contributing to more informed and environmentally conscious societies. Participants develop a deeper understanding of river ecosystems, the importance of protecting water quality, and the need for cooperation across borders—key principles of Integrated Water Resources Management.

Through this approach, Danube Art Master contributes to:

strengthening environmental education and water literacy,

encouraging community-level engagement with local water bodies,

supporting the development of future generations who understand and value sustainable water management,

promoting transboundary thinking and cooperation across the Danube region.

The competition is held annually in two stages—national and international—bringing together winning entries from participating countries and showcasing them at the regional level.

Explore the successful editions from previous years and discover how young people across the Danube region are contributing to a more sustainable future.

GWP Central and Eastern Europe engages children from an early age, nurturing their interest in water and contributing to the shared vision of a water-secure world.
