The project addresses a critical gap between traditional short-range weather forecasts and longer-term climate information by integrating subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) predictions with multi-hazard and impact-based approaches. By connecting currently fragmented research communities and practitioners, ANTICIPATE aims to improve preparedness, anticipatory action, and decision-making in the face of increasingly frequent and compound extreme weather events across Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-ca51e028 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/cee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/02\/1200x675-ATICIPATE-logo-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"uag-image-989\" width=\"1200\" height=\"576\" title=\"1200x675 ATICIPATE logo\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"img\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-6-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-374890fde916ab45374071f25081deed\"><strong>Project\u202fobjectives\u202f:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Build a common understanding of multi-hazard risks and impacts, their drivers, interdependencies, and sources of predictability on extended-range timescales.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop conceptual frameworks and methodologies for extended-range multi-hazard prediction and early warning, aligned with international initiatives such as MHEWS and EW4All.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advance methods and tools for multi-hazard prediction using existing models and datasets, including the integration of AI and machine learning approaches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improve the use and guidance of open data, indicators, and impact information to better record, analyse, and predict multi-hazard events and their consequences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Co-design early warning products with stakeholders to support anticipatory action and inform pathways toward future operational services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthen capacity building and networking across Europe, with a strong focus on training, knowledge exchange, inclusion of ITC countries, and support for early-career researchers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-6-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7516b97925e2edaada725e6fbd63aa23\"><strong>Role of GWP CEE in the project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GWP CEE plays a stakeholder-facing and impact-oriented role in ANTICIPATE by bridging science with water management, disaster risk reduction, and policy communities in Central and Eastern Europe. GWP CEE contributes practical expertise on floods, droughts, water security, and climate resilience, supports stakeholder engagement and co-design of early warning products, and helps translate extended-range multi-hazard forecasts into anticipatory actions relevant for river basin authorities, civil protection, and policymakers. Through its regional network, GWP CEE strengthens capacity building, dissemination, and uptake of ANTICIPATE outputs, particularly in ITC countries, ensuring societal relevance and policy
