The <\/span><\/span>TEACHER-CE<\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/span>(<\/span>which stands for <\/span><\/span>j<\/span>oinT <\/span>Efforts to increase water management Adaptation to climate <\/span>C<\/span>Hanges<\/span>in central <\/span>E<\/span>uRope<\/span>)<\/span><\/span>,<\/span> was <\/span>a successful project <\/span>led by the <\/span> University of Ljubljana<\/span> and <\/span>funded by Interreg Central <\/span>Europe<\/span>. <\/span>TEACHER<\/span>-CE addressed the <\/span>consequences of climate change<\/span> such as drought, heat waves, <\/span>f<\/span>loods<\/span>and others, which are already visible in <\/span>C<\/span>entral<\/span> Europe. They all call for better risk and adaptation management coordination for preventing the detrimental water-related <\/span>ecological consequences of a changing climate. TEACHER-CE addressed this need by integrating and harmonizing results of previously funded INTERREG, Horizon 2020, and Life projects <\/span><\/span>RAINMAN<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span>FRAMWAT<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>PROLINE-CE<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span>SUSTREE <\/span><\/span><\/a>into<\/span> the<\/span> so-called <\/span>CC-ARP-CE Toolbox<\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>focus <\/span>of the <\/span>two<\/span>–<\/span>year-<\/span>long (2020 \u2013 2022) TEACHER-CE<\/span> project<\/span> was<\/span> to improve the integrated water management capacities of the public sector and related entities for <\/span>risk prevention, water protection <\/span>c<\/span>ircular<\/span> c<\/span>ity<\/span> adaptation in <\/span>Central Europe <\/span>through action on <\/span>local level and <\/span>trans national <\/span>cooperation. <\/span>The <\/span><\/span>TEACHER-CE<\/span> toolbox<\/span><\/span><\/a> was created, focusing on an <\/span>integrated approach to climate-proofing of the management of water-related issues to prevent <\/span>detrimental climate<\/span> change-induced water-related outcomes such as floods, <\/span>droughts,<\/span> and heavy rain. Th<\/span>e<\/span> project <\/span>promotes the protection of water resources and <\/span>their <\/span>sustainable use by improving the <\/span>capacities<\/span> of local <\/span>and <\/span>regional <\/span>stakeholders <\/span>in <\/span>the water management sector to adapt to climate change, aiming to make <\/span>the <\/span>regions <\/span>in <\/span>Central <\/span>Europe <\/span>more <\/span>ecologically <\/span>resilient.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Project <\/span>had <\/span>three<\/span> primary <\/span>objectives<\/span>. <\/span>First, <\/span>to <\/span>develop <\/span>and <\/span>validate <\/span>a <\/span>framework <\/span>of <\/span>tools for climate change adaptation and amelioration of related risks. Second, <\/span>capacity<\/span> development for<\/span>stakeholders to adapt to a changing climate <\/span>using<\/span> this emerging toolbox and third, to boost <\/span>integrated participatory water management by interacting with target groups. Th<\/span>ese are<\/span> municipalities and other regional and national authorities that have the mandate to <\/span>change <\/span>and adapt to emerging water-related consequences of climate change. The direct local and <\/span>regional <\/span>implementation <\/span>of <\/span>the <\/span>tool box <\/span>will <\/span>help <\/span>regions <\/span>in <\/span>adapting <\/span>their <\/span>processes <\/span>to <\/span>the <\/span>changing <\/span>climate <\/span>conditions.<\/span><\/span>
