100% free and accessible to everyone, a new Danube Floodplain Online Course is an incredible opportunity to help you better understand the whole concept of floodplain management, show you examples of floodplain restoration measures, and explain how to apply tools and knowledge developed by the project itself. <\/span>Last autumn, more than 120 participants learned the <\/span>skills and knowledge for better floodplain management. <\/span>Due to big interest, the course is re-opened again! <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

“We see<\/span> a great interest to <\/span>manage f<\/span>loodplains<\/span> in sustainable <\/span>way and to b<\/span>etter preserve habitats and improve ecosystem services using integrated approach.<\/span> The re-opened Online Course is <\/span>providing us with an opportunity to<\/span> continue <\/span>build<\/span>ing <\/span>capacities<\/span> for innovative and integrated action<\/span>“<\/span> – said <\/span>Anna <\/span>Smetanova<\/span> and Sabina Bokal <\/span>from <\/span>by Global Water Partnership Central and Easter Europe<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Danube Floodplain project has been driving the development of the course and <\/span>Razvan <\/span>Bogzianu<\/span> and Cristian Rusu from Romania Waters (coordinators of the Danube Floodplain project) said that the \u201cOnline Course offers the opportunity to share experience and science in a language accessible to broad categories of people, promoting the results of science in a concrete and tangible way.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The c<\/span>ourse fills an important gap towards better floodplain management<\/span> i<\/span>n line<\/span>s<\/span> with Flood Risk Management Plans (FRMPs)<\/span> and <\/span>Water Framework Directive (WFD).  <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Online <\/span>C<\/span>ourse was coordinated and produced by Global Water Partnership Central and Easter Europe with contributions from Danube Floodplain<\/span> Project<\/span> partners. <\/span>Together, <\/span>23 experts from Danube region br<\/span>ought <\/span>their experiences to lectures and case studies<\/span>. <\/span>Course <\/span>modules<\/span> cover following topics:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  1. The principles of floodplain management and its relevance to EU <\/span>legislation;<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n

      Lessons learned when putting the management and restoration theory into <\/span>practice;<\/span> <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n

        Technical aspects, such as modelling, ecosystem services valuation, and ecohydrological effects of invasive <\/span>species;<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n

          Benefits of stakeholder engagement, the principles of feasibility studies, and cost-benefit analysis<\/span>;<\/span>  <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n

            How to use newly developed tools for evaluating and visualizing floodplains and their restoration potential. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

            \u201cThis online course offers the opportunity to non-professionals to learn more about the basics of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling to better appreciate the results of the science\u201d – said Prof. Markus Disse from Technical University of Munich.<\/span><\/p>\n
