{"id":2633,"date":"2017-04-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-04-02T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/cee\/news\/danube-art-master-2017\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T08:13:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T07:13:18","slug":"danube-art-master-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/cee\/archive\/danube-art-master-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Danube Art Master 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>&nbsp;<\/b>The winning submission \u201cBridge \u2013 rivers connect people and bridges connect their riversides\u201d &#8211; was created by pupils from the Sixth Basic School, Ilid\u017ea, in Sarajevo. The creative, artistic work of art made out of used plastic bottles and plastic waste forms a bridge depicting the joint goal of children building bridges that will connect with others towards a cleaner Danube, free of plastics.<\/p>\n<p>The International Master is selected from the winners of the national \u2018Danube Art Master\u2019&nbsp;competitions in 12 Danube Basin countries including Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria,&nbsp;Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia,&nbsp;Slovenia and Ukraine. All children and schools from these 12 countries were invited to apply. While around 2000 children participated, only about 280 artworks were submitted since most contestants were working in larger teams.&nbsp;<br><br>The \u201cInternational Danube Art Master 2017\u201d competition was announced on Danube Day on 29&nbsp;June, 2017. The competition was linked to the event\u2019s central theme \u2013 \u201cGet Active for a Cleaner Danube\u201d \u2013 to build on one of the three pillars of the Danube Declaration 2016, towards cleaner, healthier and safer waters for everyone to enjoy.<br>Children were encouraged to visit local rivers and surrounding environments and to think about&nbsp;their importance and connections. They were then asked to reflect their thoughts and inspirations&nbsp;through environmental art using materials from in and around the river.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/cee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/04\/dam-2017-2nd-place-300x180-1-1.jpg\" height=\"180\" width=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p>Other examples of prize-winning submissions at the national level included Hungary\u2019s&nbsp;\u2018Give me a hand!\u2019 made from sand, glass debris and plastic waste showing a hand reaching out of the waste.&nbsp;The work was created by Gr\u00e9ta Melinda Gats, a pupil at the Szombathelyi Szombathely Arts High School in Szombathely.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The third prize went to Croatia with Eco Patrol, by a group of pupils from O\u0160 Drenje, PO&nbsp;Slatinik in Drenje.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/cee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/04\/dam-2017-3rd-place-300x180-1-1.jpg\" height=\"180\" width=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p>The competition was jointly organized by the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.icpdr.org\">ICPDR&nbsp;<\/a>and the Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE), an ICPDR observer organisation and one of the largest networks focusing on water in the world.<br>\u201cWe believe that this competition encourages children and teenagers to learn more about the Danube and help protect it,\u201d said ICPDR Executive Secretary Ivan Zavadsky about the competition. \u201cIt is also an artistic reminder for adults and the representatives of Danube national governments of their joint responsibility to ensure that the Danube is protected for future generations.\u201d<br><br>An award ceremony will be held in Vienna during the ICPDR Ordinary Meeting in December in Vienna.<br><br>Source:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/icpdr.org\/main\/bosnia-and-herzegovina-wins-international-danube-art-master-2017-competition\">ICPDR&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VIENNA, 10 October &#8211; A secondary school in Bosnia and Herzegovina has won the \u2018International Danube Art Master 2017\u2019 competition, announced Susanne Brandstetter, Chairperson of the Public Participation Expert Group of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR).
