The patron of the Hungarian competition is the President of Hungray Mr. J\u00e1nos \u00c1der. This year in Hungary, a&nbsp;total of 17 projects were received. Altogether 38 secondary school students were involved, including individual contestants, two and three member teams as well. The projects dealt with different topics, like greywater utilization, ecosystem services, water quality of drinking water and of surface water, environmental awareness, euthrophication and wastewater treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/cee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/04\/sjwp-2016-2-394x263-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"SJWP-Hungary-2016\" width=\"394\" height=\"262\"><\/p>\n<p>The jury, chaired by Professor Andr\u00e1s Sz\u00f6ll\u00f6si-Nagy, former Director of the Division of Water and Secretary of the International Hydrological Programme of UNESCO and Governor Representative of the World Water Council, screened all projects using the same criteria as for the international final in Stockholm. The other members of the jury were leading experts of the water sector in Hungary. After two screenings, the jury selected the five most promising projects for the national final:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Environment-efficient and sustainable reusing of different greywater and deposit forms <\/em>by Filipcsuk P\u00e9ter Guszt\u00e1v and J\u00f3n\u00e1s Andrea Petra &nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><em>What can we gain by using grey water?<\/em> by Kov\u00e1cs D\u00e1vid and Sz\u0171cs Iv\u00e1n \u00c1kos. Their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xcwO1NZJ7JM&amp;feature=youtu.be\">video<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><em>Studying the processes of eutrophication in the Ny\u00e9ki-Danube backwater<\/em> by Topolszki N\u00f3ra and P\u00e1lfy Br\u00fan\u00f3<\/li>\n<li><em>The effect of TiO2 coating on Polyacrylanitrile membrane\u2019s filtration properties in case of oil in water emulsion filtration<\/em> by Halk\u00f3 \u00c1d\u00e1m<\/li>\n<li><em>\u201cThe living water\u201d-&nbsp;solutions of the surface water protection at the Szedresi \u0150s-S\u00e1rv\u00edz<\/em> by Rappay Bence Zsolt and Varga Peter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the final, the contestants presented in English their main findings and answered to the jury&#8217;s squestions. The winners of this year\u2019s SJWP competition in Hungary are Kov\u00e1cs D\u00e1vid and Sz\u0171cs Iv\u00e1n \u00c1kos from Elek Kada Secondary School of Economics with their work <em>What can we gain by using grey water?<\/em> The authors investigated rainwater harvesting under local conditions. They justified by calculations the potential saving (in terms of water and money) in their secondary school by using rainwater for toilet flushing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/cee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/04\/sjwp-2016-3-394x263-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"SJWP-Hungary-2016\" width=\"394\" height=\"262\"><\/p>\n<p>The prize was handed by Mr. Istv\u00e1n Jo\u00f3, Ministerial Commissioner at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.
