They also have to make sure to have clean water for their children, to have a healthy life\u201d, says Dr. Schaefer-Preuss.<\/p>\n<p>\n<object width=\"396\" height=\"264\" data=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/-O3RZiGfrXc\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\">\n<param name=\"data\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/-O3RZiGfrXc\">\n<param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/-O3RZiGfrXc\">\n<\/object>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>GWP launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/assets\/legacy\/globalassets\/global\/about-gwp\/strategic-documents\/gwp-gender-strategy.pdf\">Gender Strategy<\/a> last year &#8211; which addresses diversity and inclusion, and highlights women&#8217;s role in the integrated and sustainable management of water resources. Since then, GWP has undertaken a number of initiatives to empower women and girls in water management around the world \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/assets\/legacy\/globalassets\/global\/activities\/news\/march-2015\/gwp-activities-involving-women.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">some examples are listed here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>International Women\u2019s Day highlights <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/~\/media\/headquarters\/attachments\/sections\/csw\/pfa_e_final_web.pdf\">the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action<\/a>, which is a historic roadmap signed by 189 governments 20 years ago. This document outlines an agenda for realizing women\u2019s rights, but there are still many gaps in fulfilling this agenda. The day is also a way to highlight what still needs to be done.<\/p>\n<p>International Women\u2019s Day is celebrated globally on March 8<sup>th<\/sup> in many different ways. For instance, UN-Women has announced a march for gender equality in New York, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/news\/in-focus\/international-womens-day\">on their homepage<\/a> they have listed relevant links to all the coverage of the day on different platforms and social media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 8 March 2015, GWP celebrates International Women\u2019s Day by advocating for a #watergoal, which would mean major improvements in living conditions for women worldwide.
