This <\/span>capacity-building<\/span> workshop <\/span>is <\/span>within<\/span> the framework of the <\/span>implementation of the project<\/span>,<\/span>” <\/span><\/span>Lake Chad Management Improvement Support <\/span>Project<\/span><\/span><\/a> <\/span>“<\/span>– a<\/span> regional initiative funded by the <\/span>G<\/span><\/span>lobal Environment Facility (GEF)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>and<\/span> jo<\/span>intly imp<\/span>lemented by <\/span><\/span>U<\/span>NDP<\/span><\/span><\/a> and th<\/span>e <\/span><\/span>LCBC<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/a> The main <\/span>objective <\/span>of this project i<\/span>s to <\/span>assist<\/span> the <\/span>LCBC,<\/span> and its member states achieve integrated and resilient <\/span>ecosystem<\/span>-based management of <\/span>the <\/span>Lake Chad. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The 3<\/span><\/span>rd <\/span><\/span>c<\/span>omponent of the project<\/span> aim<\/span>s to <\/span>create <\/span>an enabling environment for the implementation of the LCBC <\/span><\/span>S<\/span>trat<\/span>egic Act<\/span>ion Program (SA<\/span>P<\/span>)<\/span><\/span><\/a> by<\/span> <\/span>strengthening the <\/span>capacit<\/span>y <\/span>of <\/span>stakeholders <\/span>and <\/span>promoting a participatory approach to the <\/span>resolution of <\/span>problems<\/span> related to the management of natural <\/span>resource<\/span>s <\/span>in<\/span> the <\/span>basin. This will be done by<\/span> <\/span>improving the capacity <\/span>of the lakeshore communities to effectively support the sustainable management of the natural resources of the Lake Chad Basin<\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

To achieve this, the <\/span>L<\/span><\/span>CBC selected <\/span><\/span>five <\/span>national NGOs and CSOs<\/span> (ACEEN, <\/span>OH<\/span><\/strong><\/span>D,   CODICOM, E.S.E, <\/span>SECCO)<\/span><\/strong> following a call for offers , <\/span>to train and sensitiz<\/span>e <\/span>the <\/span>communities <\/span>withi<\/span>n the <\/span>Lake Chad Bas<\/span>in<\/span> area<\/span>. The general objective of the training workshop was to harmonize the different training methodology  proposed by the selected NGOs and CSOs to be used in their respective countries. <\/span><\/span>Considering that <\/span><\/span>Integrated <\/span>W<\/span>ater <\/span>R<\/span>esource <\/span>M<\/span>anagement (IWRM)<\/span><\/span><\/a> is at the heart of GWP\u2019s activities, the LCBC solicited the <\/span>technical support of GW<\/span>P<\/span> -CAf <\/span>and an<\/span> agreement was signed between the two parties for GWP-CAf <\/span>to develop <\/span>and deliver pre-identified <\/span>train<\/span>ing modules <\/span>to <\/span>the selected NGOs and CSOs <\/span>and support them in the preparation of the training to be conducted at t<\/span>he community level.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While speaking at the opening of the worksho<\/span>p<\/span>, the <\/span>LCBC <\/span>Technical <\/span>D<\/span>irector<\/span>, Mr. Hycinth Banseka<\/span><\/strong> encouraged <\/span>t<\/span>he NGOs to <\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span>work efficiently, <\/span>and <\/span>effectively to achieve set goals<\/span> in accordance with the project expectations<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em>. <\/span>The workshop featured presentations<\/span> by UNDP and LCBC<\/span> on the<\/span>project<\/span> and specificities of component 3<\/span>, clearly outlining <\/span>the expected outcome<\/span>s<\/span> of the community<\/span>-level <\/span>training<\/span>s<\/span>. <\/span>GWP-C<\/span>Af’s Communication expert; Amabo Samyra<\/strong><\/span> trained the participants on <\/span>gender<\/span> and Communication for Development<\/span>(C4D) techniques<\/span>,<\/span> to enable them <\/span>to <\/span>capitalize <\/span>on <\/span>the techniques and principles of<\/span> these themes <\/span>during the<\/span><\/span>ir<\/span><\/span>community<\/span>–<\/span>level training<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

To ensure the training modules and <\/span>methodology <\/span>will<\/span> serve the purpose of the community <\/span>training<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span> and meet the needs of the communit<\/span>ies<\/span>,<\/span> participants carried out a stakeholder analysis and each <\/span>NGO <\/span>presented <\/span>a draft training matrix. After group deliberations<\/span>,<\/span> a single matrix was developed based on what was presented by the NGOs and this will <\/span>be used by all five NGOs during community trainings<\/span>. <\/span>Participants <\/span>also <\/span>worked in country groups to develop tools for monitoring and evaluating the training sessions<\/span> \u2013 an important part of the project implementation<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The regional<\/span> capacity-building <\/span>workshop ended with <\/span>a <\/span>word of appreciation from the LCBC to <\/span>the project\u2019s financial and technical partners as well as <\/span>to <\/span>the NGOs for <\/span>engaging in this change process to foster <\/span>community-led <\/span>management of natural resources within the basin by the comm<\/span>unities. The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Chad and GWP-Central Africa (GWP-CAf) organized a three-day regional capacity-building workshop for Non-Governmental and Civil Society Organizations, to enable them to sensitize the communities within the Lake Chad Basin area on environmental awareness. <\/p>\n

The workshop which brought together representatives of five pre-selected NGOs and CSOs, from the five member states (Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria, Niger, Central African Republic) of the LCBC was held in Douala, Cameroon on June 28th \u2013 30th
