GWP-<\/span>Central Africa (GWP-<\/span>CAf<\/span>)<\/span> attended this training as a partner of AMCOW who is also involved in the  implementation of  the <\/span>pilot phase of the AIP-Scorecard, <\/span>a complementary tool to WASSMO,<\/span> in five countries (Tunisia, Benin, Cameroon, Zambia and Uganda). <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The training which had as main <\/span>object<\/span>ive <\/span>to ensure the <\/span>effective <\/span>monitor<\/span>ing<\/span>, <\/span>collect<\/span>ion,<\/span>and report<\/span>ing<\/span> quality <\/span>of the <\/span><\/span>AfricaSan<\/span>Ngor<\/span><\/span><\/a> Commitments data <\/span>and the <\/span><\/span>Africa Water and Sanitation Sector Monitoring and <\/span>Reporting<\/span> System (<\/span>WASSMO<\/span>),<\/span><\/span><\/a> reporting framework<\/span> is crucial<\/span> as it will guarantee <\/span>effective reporting by member states <\/span>towards the development of the 2022 Water and Sanitation Sector Report for <\/span>A<\/span>U<\/span> Heads of States and Government<\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond tracking the implementation of high-level continental commitments relating to water and sanitation, including the <\/span>Africa Water Vision 2025<\/span><\/span><\/a> and the <\/span>SDG<\/span> 6 targets; the WASSMO system also lays the foundation for monitoring progress towards the Africa Agenda 2063. <\/span>During the<\/span> training, <\/span>the <\/span>focal points<\/span> were <\/span>capacitated<\/span> on the best practices and <\/span>tools for effective planning, <\/span>coordination, in the <\/span>implementation of WASSMO and <\/span>AfricaSan<\/span>Ngor<\/span> processes<\/span>. <\/span>Participants also engaged in <\/span>practical <\/span>lessons <\/span>on how to use the WASSMO IT system.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

On the second day of the training, the representatives from GWP-<\/span>CAf<\/span> and GWP-West Africa presented the <\/span><\/span>A<\/span>frica Water Investment (<\/span>A<\/span>IP<\/span>)<\/span>Scorecard<\/span><\/span><\/a> which <\/span>was adopted by the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD as part of the\u202f<\/span><\/span>Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA)<\/span><\/a>\u202fin February 2022. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Considering<\/span> that the AIP Scorecard <\/span>track<\/span>s<\/span> priority <\/span>water-related <\/span>investment<\/span> indicators and <\/span>will <\/span>assist<\/span> leaders in improving accountability, monitoring, and response to the water <\/span>investment<\/span> gaps<\/span>, it <\/span>is a useful <\/span>tool <\/span>that<\/span> can support the WASSMO <\/span>to achieve water security in Central Africa and Africa at large.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

One of the main conclusions of this training was to capitalize platforms on water, <\/span>hygiene,<\/span> and sanitation and to <\/span>harmonize<\/span> efforts between stakeholders (sectoral ministries, researchers, civil society, technical and financial partners) to better inform the WASSMO tool.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

I<\/span>n 2016<\/span>, <\/span><\/span>AMCOW<\/span><\/span><\/a>developed the Africa Water and Sanitation Sector Monitoring and <\/span>Reporting<\/span> System<\/span>(WASSMO). The WASSMO system <\/span>assists<\/span> AMCOW in tracking progress toward<\/span>s the <\/span>attainment of Sharm El Sheikh commitments, <\/span>AfricaSan<\/span>Ngor<\/span> Commitment, African Water Vision 2025<\/span>,<\/span> and Sustainable Development Goal 6 targets by 2030. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
