{"id":2610,"date":"2020-11-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-20T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/central-africa\/news\/gwp-caf-holds-its-14th-steering-committee-meeting\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T16:08:38","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T15:08:38","slug":"gwp-caf-holds-its-14th-steering-committee-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/central-africa\/news\/gwp-caf-holds-its-14th-steering-committee-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"GWP-CAf holds its 14th Steering Committee Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This statutory meeting of GWP-CAf SC brought together the GWP-CAf Regional Chair, Chairs of four Country Water Partnerships (<b>Congo, Chad, Central Africa Republic, Sao Tome and Principe<\/b>), representatives of Regional partners (<b>ECCAS, CBLT), Representation of Technical and Financial Partners (UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa<\/b>),<b>&nbsp;<\/b>Representatives<b> of GWPO<\/b>&nbsp;, Youths and the Civil Society, as well as the Chair of the GWP CAf Regional Technical Committee.&nbsp; The two day meeting had as principal objective to evaluate the level of implementation of GWP-CAf\u2019s 2020 Work Plan and discuss and approve the proposed work plan for 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In his first official address to the Steering Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwp.org\/en\/GWP-Central-Africa\/WE-ACT\/news\/gwp-caf-appoints-new-chair\/\">since his election as GWP-CAf Chair in 2019<\/a>,<strong> Mr. Sylvain Guebanda<\/strong> thanked the members for entrusting him with the responsibility to lead GWP-CAf\u2019s activities in the region. He also expressed his appreciation to <strong>GWPO<\/strong> for the continuous technical and financial support which pivotal to the success of GWP-CAf\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Mr. Sylvain Guebanda GWP-CAf Chair\" alt=\"Mr. Sylvain Guebanda GWP-CAf Chair\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/central-africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2026\/04\/mot-douverture-president-1.jpg\" height=\"664\" width=\"1271\">&nbsp;After highlighting the challenges in the implementation of the 2020 workplan posed by the COVID-19 crisis, the chair&nbsp; pointed out some key results of the year such as; GWP-CAf\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwp.org\/en\/GWP-Central-Africa\/WE-ACT\/news\/gwp-caf-supports-six-countries-in-the-monitoring-process-for-sdg-6.5.1-in-the-region\/\">support<\/a> towards the implementation of<strong> indicator 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 of the SDGs<\/strong> in the region,<strong> government endorsement of the National Water Policy in the Central Africa Republic<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwp.org\/en\/GWP-Central-Africa\/WE-ACT\/news\/cwp-republic-of-congo-cwp-congo-now-accredited\/\">accreditation of CWP-Congo<\/a> , key partnerships formed at the country and regional level to advance the water security agenda amongst others. He concluded by setting the pace for next year saying,<strong> <i>\u201cNext year we will continue our efforts, counting on your support so that together we can strive to achieve our vision of a water-secure Central Africa\u201d.<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The meeting featured different presentations by the<strong> GWP-CAf<\/strong> secretariat and the CWP Chairs notably on the level of implementation of the 2019 SC meeting recommendations and 2020 workplan, challenges faced, planned activities\/budget for 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/central-africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2026\/04\/julienne-1-1.jpg\" height=\"777\" width=\"1305\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">One highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the GWPO representative ,<strong>&nbsp;Julienne Roux<\/strong>&nbsp;during which she pointed out GWPO\u2019s appreciation to&nbsp;GWP-CAf&nbsp;for the increase mobilization of resources (financial and human) , support to the implementation of GWP\u2019s mission and<strong>&nbsp;Strategy 2020-2025<\/strong>&nbsp;and capacity building of regional and national partners.<\/p>\n<p>Another key presentation was on the <strong>WACDEP-G<\/strong> program which is in its start-up phase at the regional and national (Cameroon) level. In line with this program, the WACDEP-G Regional Gender Advisor, <strong>Henriette Bikie<\/strong> made recommendations on how the steering committee can institutionalize gender to ensure that GWP-CAf as an institution is gender-transformative.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Henriette Bikie GWP-CAf Gender Advisor\" alt=\"Henriette Bikie GWP-CAf Gender Advisor\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/central-africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2026\/04\/henriette-1.jpg\" height=\"432\" width=\"1004\"><\/p>\n<p>At the end of the two day meeting, the steering committee members&nbsp; made the following key decisions :<em>&nbsp;approved of the selection of the National Water Company of Sao Tome and Principe as the Steering Committee representative of the \u201cWater Operators College\u201d, approved the 2021 Workplan and <strong>WACDEP-G<\/strong> activities, put in place a small committee of SC members to review GWP-CAf\u2019s draft Procedure Manual<\/em>. Some recommendations were made with regards to capitalizing GWP-CAf\u2019s partnership with<strong> ECCAS<\/strong> in 2021, improving private sector engagement as well as strengthening Country Water Partnerships at the institutional and financial level \u2013 through the conceptualization of bankable projects.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/central-africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2026\/04\/fa-1-1.jpg\" height=\"603\" width=\"996\"><\/p>\n<p>During the closing session, GWP-CAf Executive Secretary,<strong> Mr. Hycinth BANSEKA<\/strong> expressed gratitude to all SC members for their participation, contributions and rich recommendations which will be implemented to advance water security in the region.
