Co-convenors were&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.civil.tsinghua.edu.cn\/en\/he\/\">Tsinghua University,<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/eng.waterpub.com.cn\/\">China Water Power Press (CWPP)<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/xwxc.mwr.gov.cn\/\">the Education Center of the Ministry of Water Resources of China (MWR)<\/a> and the Department of Water Resources of MWR.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On October 19, 2018, under the theme of <strong>\u201cthe Belt and Road, the Able and Young\u201d,<\/strong> the Dialogue invited <strong>50 youth leaders and representatives<\/strong> from <strong>14 countries<\/strong> to promote interregional cooperation and water resources management in the \u201cBelt &amp; Road\u201d nations. Upon the principles of <a href=\"http:\/\/youthwaterclimate.org\/\"><strong>the GWP\u2019s Youth Strategy<\/strong><\/a> and the Youth Development Plan of IWHR, the Dialogue targeted at inspiring young people to contribute to the global water development and raising the public awareness of fostering the future decision makers of water management.<br><br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/china\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/04\/youth-forum-inside-350220-1.jpg\" height=\"220\" width=\"350\"><em><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Xiaogang WANG<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Vice President of IWHR, <strong>Xiaogang WANG&nbsp;<\/strong>said, \u201cYoung people are the imminent decision-makers and water users. Serving the future, we should join our efforts to develop the next generation of water soldiers, and also empower the youth as a critical role in the promotion of \u2018the Belt and Road\u2019, \u2018the Agenda 2030\u2019, and eventually in the shape of societies for the better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His inspiration was shared by <strong>Monika Weber-Fahr<\/strong>, Executive Secretary &amp; CEO of GWP and <strong>Qiuchi SHI<\/strong>, Deputy Director General of MWR &amp; Steering Committee Member of GWP at the global level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In her address to the Dialogue, <strong>Monika<\/strong> <strong>Weber<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>Fahr<\/strong>&nbsp;started her speech by raising a question to the participants, \u201cwho in this room is aware that when the Silk Road started?\u201d She said, \u201cThe Silk Road was founded over 2000 years. At that time, \u2018dangerous\u2019 is the most concerning issue to the ancient people due to unexpectations in the international journeys. Today, we are still facing the \u2018dangerous issues\u2019 such as climate change, water security. The more modern we are, the more dangerous things we have to face as we must deal with the most challenging problem in the world. The most appropriate solution provided by GWP is a <strong>multiple-stakeholders platform<\/strong>. On that platform, diverse sectors would work to defend ourselves from dangerous problems. <strong>\u6c34\u8d44\u6e90\u7efc\u5408\u7ba1\u7406<\/strong> can convene our strengths and perspectives together, and water can inspire us for working towards a joint mission.\u201d<br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/china\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/04\/youth-forum-inside-001.jpg\" height=\"121\" width=\"182\">&nbsp;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/china\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/04\/youth-forum-inside-002.jpg\" height=\"122\" width=\"183\">&nbsp;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/china\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/04\/youth-forum-inside-000.jpg\" height=\"123\" width=\"184\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<em><strong>GWP&#8217;s contribution to the Beijing events<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>From \u2018the learning &amp; sharing\u2019 to \u2018the free discussion\u2019 at the Dialogue, youth talents and decision-makers of stakeholder organisations exchanged their genuine experiences and lessons. Their interactions formed a multicultural and inclusive stage of brainstorming a better mechanism of offering younger generations with knowledge, financing and politic support for comprehensive development and more contribution to the water sustainability at global, regional and national levels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/china\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/04\/youth-forum-inside-004.jpg\" height=\"282\" width=\"485\"><em><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Qiuchi SHI<\/strong><\/em><br>In the summary of <strong>Qiuchi SHI<\/strong>, she commented, \u201cWater is not for drinking but also for an imagination, referring to culture. In Zhangqian\u2019s Dynasty, it was a challenge to go broad even once. But today, communications between different countries and regions are much convenient. Even travelling from China to Latin America, it would not take over a year but only a 24-hour journey to the destination. I want to suggest that in your young age, you can utilise the platform of GWP to visit other regions or countries for learning and to share from more peers.
