Under the \u201cwater security for sustainable development<\/em>,\u201d the 3rd Asia-Pacific Water Summit (APWS)<\/strong> <\/a>was opened by the address of H.E. Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor of Myanmar,<\/strong> on December 11, 2017. <\/p>\n

The Summit invited leaders and heads of related governments from China, Singapore, Vietnam, Australia, Indonesia, Israel, Philippines, Japan, Bhutan, Kyrgyz, Nepal, etc. The directors of international organizations to the event were International Center for Inte-grated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), ADB, World Water Council, etc. Mr. Zhiguang LIU, Director General and Mr. Zhao HAO, Division Chief, International Cooperation, Science and Technology, Ministry of Water Resources of China, attended the Summit on behalf of the government. Mr. LIU released the statement echoing the theme and delivered the commitment to achieving water security for the earth. Along with him, the heads of states and governments set out declarations toward water security for sustainable development as well.<\/p>\n

The Summit set up three parallel thematic sessions on December 12, focusing \u201cfinancing the implementation of the water-related SDGs\u201d; \u201cworking together: multi-stakeholders\u2019 partnership for regional cooperation\u201d and \u201csource-to-sea opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region.\u201d The stakeholders prepared for different topics to address a variety of water issues and exchange solutions for these problems in an appropriate manner, which would form a basis for sustainable development of the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

GWP<\/a>, ICIMOD<\/a> and APWF co-organized the session of \u201cWorking Together: Multi-Stakeholders\u2019 Partnership (MSP) for Regional Cooperation<\/strong>.\u201d The two-hour session received various responses and echoes from the audience.<\/p>\n

Four regions in Asia, including GWP Central Asia and Caucasus<\/a>, \u5168\u7403\u6c34\u4f19\u4f34\uff08\u4e2d\u56fd\uff09\uff1a\u51719\u4e2a\u5206\u652f\u673a\u6784\uff0c\u5305\u62ec\u7701\u7ea7\u3001\u6d41\u57df\u7ea7\u6c34\u4f19\u4f34\u3001\u4e13\u9898\u59d4\u5458\u4f1a\u548c\u5de5\u4f5c\u59d4\u5458\u4f1a\uff0c\u5de5\u4f5c\u8bed\u8a00\u4e3a\u6c49\u8bed\u3002<\/a>,  \u5168\u7403\u6c34\u4f19\u4f34\uff08\u5357\u4e9a\uff09\uff1a\u8be5\u5730\u533a\u51716\u4e2a\u56fd\u5bb6\u6c34\u4f19\u4f34,\u5206\u522b\u5728\u5b5f\u52a0\u62c9\u56fd\u3001\u4e0d\u4e39\u3001\u5370\u5ea6\u3001\u5c3c\u6cca\u5c14\u3001\u5df4\u57fa\u65af\u5766\u548c\u65af\u91cc\u5170\u5361\u3002\u5404\u56fd\u7684\u5b98\u65b9\u8bed\u8a00\u4e0d\u540c\uff0c\u56e0\u6b64\u5730\u533a\u5de5\u4f5c\u8bed\u8a00\u4e3a\u82f1\u8bed\u3002 <\/a> and GWP South East Asia<\/a>, illustrated audiences the practice on running the mechanism of multiple stakeholders\u2019 coordination and its impacts on the interregional relationship.<\/p>\n

\u8de8\u754c<\/strong> cases showed cooperation progress of \u201cBrahmaputra\u201d from Dr. Sucharita Sen from Saci Waters<\/strong>, and Dr. Watt Botkosal from GWP Southeast Asia Region<\/strong> revealed the significance of coordinating \u201cMekong River\u201d with \u201cLancang-Mekong River Cooperation.<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> By the geographical scope, Dr. Ravi Narayanan from APW<\/strong>F shared the key mission of this organization, and Yilin MA from GWP China Region<\/strong> illustrated the vital role of multiple stakeholders partnership in the implementation of \u201dthe Belt and Road Initiative\u201d <\/a>and common interests behind it. The multiple stakeholders at interregional, regional, and national levels would be supportive of a broad collaboration. While targeting at concrete results, it must em-ploy in communities. Dr. Zaw Lwin Tun<\/strong> and Dr. U Hla Baw<\/strong> from water-related governments of Myanmar delivered their practical experiences of convening diverse civil societies and NGOs toward a joint mission<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\u201cWater interacts people,\u201d said Fran\u00e7ois Brikk\u00e9 from GWP<\/span>,<\/strong> \u201cand the way of interacting multiple stakeholders is a deter-miner to key decisions and investments that would affect natural resources and human living environment.”<\/p>\n

The most recommended methods were ‘transboundary river water sharing<\/em>‘, ‘flood event information sharing<\/em>‘, and ‘regional networks<\/em>‘. The MSP<\/strong> would help policymakers, experts, planners, and practitioners exchange data, information, ideas, and perspectives towards achieving a universal solution.<\/p>\n
