WHAT High Level Panel on Water – Valuing Water Consultation

To accelerate a change in the way governments, societies, and the private sector use and manage water, the UN Secretary-General and World Bank Group President convened a High Level Panel on Water (HLPW) <\/a>at the Heads of State and Government level.<\/p>\n Bangladesh has been chosen as one of the several countries to host a HLPW consultation meeting <\/a>that aims at providing the leadership required championing a comprehensive, inclusive, and collaborative way of developing and managing water resources, and improving water and sanitation related services.<\/p>\n This country consultation will be attended by H.E. Nazrul Islam, Honourable State Minister, Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR), Government of the People\u2019s Republic of Bangladesh, as the Chief Guest while Mr Humayun Kabir, Additional Secretary, MoWR will Chair the inaugural session. Representatives from the government, semi-government, local governments, International Non-Governmental Organisation, Community Based Organisations, Global Water Partnership, Bangladesh Water Partnership and development partners including World Bank, Asian Development Bank and 2030 Water Resources Group (WRG 2030)-International Finance Cooperation will also attend the consultation.<\/p>\n The purpose of the consultations is to obtain views from a wide array of country level stakeholders on the proposals from the HLPW on the Valuing Water Preamble<\/a> and principles. The Consultations will build awareness and examine the regional\/country level relevance of global perspectives, and provide inputs, options and recommendations that will enhance resolutions from the HLPW.<\/p>\n The HLPW is aimed at developing a set of shared principles to motivate and encourage governments, business and civil society to consider water\u2019s multiple values and to guide the transparent incorporation of these values into decision-making by policymakers, communities, and businesses.<\/p>\n Members of the HLPW are Heads of State from Australia, Bangladesh, Hungary, Jordan, Mauritius (co-chair), Mexico (co-chair), Netherlands, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, and Tajikistan.<\/p>\n Media contacts: <\/b><\/p>\n Bangladesh Water Partnership: <\/b><\/p>\n
