The report on the progress on IWRM in the Asia-Pacific region is based on the national consultations held last year to assess the implementation of SDG 6.5.1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2017, the Global Water Partnership (GWP) has partnered with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the UNEP-DHI Centre, and Cap-Net to assist governments in monitoring and accelerating progress towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicator 6.5.1\u2014 the degree of implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Based on the analysis of country responses to the 2020 Data Drive on that indicator, as well as interviews with focal points and an online Learning Exchange, we are pleased to present the “Progress on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the Asia-Pacific Region 2021: Learning exchange on monitoring and implementation towards SDG 6.5.1”. We are now launching the report online to coincide with the Stockholm Water Week 2021, during the Asia Focus session: Accelerating inclusive water governance to advance sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This report focuses on the degree of implementation of the 33 questions evaluated on the 4 dimensions of IWRM: the enabling environment (laws,\u00a0policies\u00a0and plans); institutional arrangements and stakeholder participation; management tools for informed decision making; and financing for sustainable water management. It also provides lessons learned from 16 countries where a multi-stakeholder consultation was\u00a0facilitated\u00a0during the monitoring process within the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme.\u00a0

This report is expected to provide the basis for further regional collaboration to\u00a0act\u00a0on the critical next steps needed to work towards achieving full IWRM implementation by 2030. This is in line with the Yangon Declaration made by Leaders of the Asia-Pacific region at the Third Asia-Pacific Water Summit in 2017, which committed to achieving the water-related Sustainable Development Goals and targets, and to facilitating the implementation of IWRM to achieve water security for sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
