President Kikwete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfrican governments are doing their best to prioritise water investments, but resources are limited. Current investment levels are not enough to cover the needs of the continent,\u201d added H.E. President Kikwete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWater and sanitation sector investment in Africa stands at between US$10bn-19bn.The African Development Bank estimates that US$ 64 billion should be invested annually to meet the 2025 Africa water vision of water security for all. As a result of this massive investment gap, Africa\u2019s basic socio-economic needs are not met.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Continental Africa Water Investment Programme (<a href=\"https:\/\/aipwater.org\/\">AIP<\/a>) has been adopted by the African Union as a transformative programme designed to respond to the shortfall in delivering water investments on the continent,\u201d said H.E. President Kikwete.<\/p>\n<p>Watch His Excellency President Jakaya Kikwete, previous President of Tanzania and GWPSA-ACU Chair deliver his address during the Water Dialogues for Results High-Level Ministerial Conference below.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6V16jW529So\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"300\" data-gtm-yt-inspected-9=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cInternational High-Level Panel on Water for Africa will support and champion the AIP,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The International High-Level Panel on Water for Africa would sustain political commitment through the AIP Water Investment Scorecard, which is currently under development.&nbsp; H.E. President Kikwete said that the AIP Scorecard would be a \u201cgame-changer\u201d as it will enhance mutual accountability and commitment by tracking progress in the provision of water for basic needs and for economic growth in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The Water Dialogues for Results are an initiative by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), on behalf of the entire German government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe High-Level Conference on SDG 6 forms part of the official preparatory process for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwater.org\/midterm-review-of-the-water-action-decade-in-2023\/\">the Mid-term Review of the UN Water Action Decade in 2023<\/a>,\u201d said H.E. Ms Svenja Schulze, Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need a coordinated global approach to overcome the vast challenge of ensuring reliable water supply to all countries,\u201d added H.E. Ms Schulze.<\/p>\n<p>Water ministers and leaders of global multilateral organisations used the High-Level Conference on SDG 6 &nbsp;as a platform to discuss opportunities to accelerate global response to meeting SDG 6, within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwater.org\/sdg6-action-space\/#:~:text=SDG%206%20Global%20Acceleration%20Framework%20%E2%80%93%20Action%20Space,sanitation%20crisis%20is%20getting%20worse.&amp;text=The%20SDG%206%20Global%20Acceleration,deliver%20the%20SDGs%20by%202030.\">UN Water global SDG Accelerator framework<\/a>, which is based around five action areas:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Financing<\/li>\n<li>Data<\/li>\n<li>Capacity Development<\/li>\n<li>Governance, and<\/li>\n<li>Innovation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Water Dialogues for Results High Level Ministerial Conference on SDG 6, was preceded by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwp.org\/en\/GWP-SouthernAfrica\/About-GWP-SAF\/more\/News\/africa-calls-for-an-international-high-level-panel-on-water\/\">Regional Dialogue for Africa held on 26 May<\/a>, where the International High-Level Panel on Water for Africa was identified as a priority for the continent, along with the need to implement the AIP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAIP offers new hope for Africa. It offers development agencies and banks, as well as the private sector, an opportunity to invest in climate-resilient, gender-sensitive water and sanitation investments that contribute to achieving SDG 6 in Africa,\u201d said H.E. President Kikwete.<\/p>\n<p>The Regional Dialogue was convened by the African Ministers\u2019 Council on Water (AMCOW), and the Governments of Germany, South Africa and Senegal, and supported by GWP
