Citizen action, accountability, monitoring, and advocacy for water and climate security in Africa \u2013 Tanzania<\/li>\n<li>Achieving Healthy African Great Lakes through a Highly Collaborative Freshwater Scientific Network \u2013 African Center for Aquatic Research and Education, USA<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Southern Africa:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Engineering Support for Enhanced Ecological Infrastructure critical for Sustainable Adaptation Solutions for Water in Africa &#8211; Zutary Water Resources Group, South Africa<\/li>\n<li>Lower Share River Basin Flood Risk Management &#8211; Zutary Water Resources Group, South Africa<\/li>\n<li>Zambia pilot programme for programme resilience \u2013 Zambia<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>West Africa:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Clean, solar-powered water supply unlocks health, gender equality and economic prosperity in vulnerable Nigerian communities &#8211; Wateraid, UK<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In total, there are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwp.org\/en\/About\/more\/news\/2020\/results-are-in-seventy-eight-water-changemakers-take-the-next-step-in-their-journey\/\">78 semi-finalists<\/a> who will move to the next stage in the Awards selection process.<\/p>\n<p>GWPSA Executive Secretary and GWP Global Head of Climate Change, Mr. Alex Simalabwi congratulated the achievement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to congratulate the contestants who have made it to the semi-finalist stage. We wish them the best in the next phase of the jury process\u201d, said Simalabwi. \u201cIt goes without saying that we are endowed with change makers, whose decisions have shaped the context of water and climate change interventions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He further acknowledged all 26 participants from the region whose change journeys made it through the first jury round. The initial shortlisting process revealed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwp.org\/en\/waterchangemakers\/eligible-submissions\/\">26 eligible entries from the SADC region,<\/a> with almost half from South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>A second stage jury of thought leaders will convene in October to consider additional input to the submissions and determine the list of finalists, with winners to be announced in early 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Awards are not an end in themselves, but also a way to bring people together to collaborate around common challenges\u201d, said Mr Peter Repinski, GWPO Interim Executive Secretary. \u201cThe change submissions provide a platform for regions to effectively strengthen the network and create additional visibility for the regions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: left;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/southern-africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2026\/04\/peter-repinski-1-1.jpg\" height=\"427\" width=\"640\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Mr. Peter Repinski, GWPO Interim Executive Secretary<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He added that the Change journeys will add insights to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iwrmactionhub.org\/about\">IWRM Toolbox<\/a>&nbsp;and contribute towards the creation of different communities of ChangeMakers who can interact and learn from each other.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">By identifying individuals and organizations who have successfully initiated and sustained changes in water decision making to strengthen climate resilience, the Awards explore \u2013 through a \u201cwater lens\u201d &#8211; those frontier issues, technologies, and emerging social trends that can shape a long-term
