{"id":4069,"date":"2017-07-28T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-27T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/southern-africa\/news\/gwp-africa-aligns-its-programs-to-advance-sdgs-job-creation-and-the-african-union-agenda-2063\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T16:12:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T15:12:58","slug":"gwp-africa-aligns-its-programs-to-advance-sdgs-job-creation-and-the-african-union-agenda-2063","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/southern-africa\/news\/gwp-africa-aligns-its-programs-to-advance-sdgs-job-creation-and-the-african-union-agenda-2063\/","title":{"rendered":"GWP Africa aligns its programs to advance SDGs, job creation and the African Union Agenda 2063"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>GWP-SA Executive Secretary and Head Coordination Unit, Mr. Alex Simalabwi said the meeting\u2019s main agenda was to review GWP Africa\u2019s programmes, their alignment to development priorities of the continent and regional economic communities\u2019 agendas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Africa region programme meeting this week provided a platform to develop strategies for engaging governments and key partners as well as mobilising funds from those key partners,\u201d noted ES Simalabwi.<\/p>\n<p>The GWP Africa regional teams held their Programmes Meeting on 24 July &#8211; 26 July 2017, at GWP Africa\u2019s Coordination Unit and Southern Africa\u2019s Regional office in Pretoria, South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The inter-regional meeting was aimed at facilitating the exchange of experiences and knowledge relating to programme development and implementation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"GWP African Program Team Meeting \" src=\"https:\/\/gwpo-gwp.org\/southern-africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2026\/04\/group-picture-edited-1.jpg\" height=\"300\" width=\"640\"><\/p>\n<p>It anchored on GWP Africa\u2019s ongoing and future programmes namely the Water Energy Food (WEF) Nexus Programme, the Water Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP), Water and Jobs Programme, Trans-Boundary Water Management Programme; and Integrated Urban Sanitation and Water Management for African Cities Programme.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cIt is no use having good policies and plans if you can\u2019t implement them to advance job creation.&nbsp; To implement them, you need investments to come in,\u201d said Simalabwi.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, GWP\u2019s programs work towards leveraging and facilitating investments, so as to create sustainable developments in Africa in energy, urban systems, sanitation as well as sustainable employment creation among other initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day it is not just about having programs but having programs that are advancing the African Development Agenda, in particular the African Union Agenda 2063 at the continental level and the regional economic community\u2019s agendas at regional level. Furthermore, we prioritises advancing the <em>African Development Bank<\/em>&nbsp;(<em>AfDB<\/em>)\u2019s \u2018High 5\u2019 Priorities which are to Feed Africa, Light up Africa, Industrialise Africa, Integrate Africa and Ensure the Improvements of Livelihoods and Wellbeing of African Citizens\u201d, said Simalabwi.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Simalabwi highlighted that GWP Africa is committed to advancing Africa\u2019s water security, ensuring climate resilience development and contributing to the overall development agenda which is sustaining and creating jobs for the continent. Overall the organisation has taken great strides in fulfilling its commitments citing synergy as a key success factor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Global Water
