Enabling Resilience Investments

GWP is an accredited delivery partner for countries aiming to access funding through the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Programmme.

Over 90% of developing countries prioritize water-related actions when it comes to adapting to climate change. However, only 10% of these countries have packaged their needs into bankable investments to secure required financing. The development of bankable water and climate resilience investments is a binding constraint to realizing countries’ priority climate actions related to water.

Our approach

Through multi-stakeholder dialogues and processes, GWP supports countries to identify how the GCF Readiness Programme can help close the water and climate resilience investment gap.

Established in 2002 by its Sponsoring Partners – the World Bank, the World Meteorological Organisation, and the Governments of Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, Chile, Hungary, Jordan, Pakistan and Argentina, GWPO provides strategic leadership and strengthens collaboration across GWP’s Regional and Country Water Partnerships. Alex Simalabwi serves as the CEO of GWPO and Executive Secretary of GWP. The Executive Secretary reports to the Steering Committee, chaired by Pablo Bereciartua, and is supported with expert guidance from a Technical Committee, chaired by Jaehyang So. GWP is overseen by its Sponsoring Partners, its ultimate governing body. The Global Secretariat, currently based in Stockholm, coordinates programmes, partnerships, and advocacy efforts.
