Financing the sustainable management of water resources is thus a major and increasing challenge but is poorly understood. Financing is not only needed for infrastructure and services, but also for the integrating function; such as governance, regulation, monitoring, training and capacity building.

The EUWI Finance Working Group together with other partners including GWP, OECD, and UNEP-DHI have been looking at this topic and prepared various papers and think pieces. The work aims to raise awareness of this issue and to stimulate discussion among water policy-makers and managers in developing countries, as well as officials in development cooperation agencies. It is hoped that the information contained in these reports will encourage a more coherent approach to financing WRM.
