The Global Water Partnership Organisation (GWPO) has officially opened its intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for signature by new Governments and States — for the first time in over 20 years.
As of 2 June 2025, Governments and States are invited to join GWPO as members — formally known as Sponsoring Partners — by signing the MoU at any of the following diplomatic locations: Stockholm (Sweden), Pretoria (South Africa), and Geneva (Switzerland).
“This is a moment to shape history, not to observe it. Because the future of water is not just a technical matter. It’s a test of our global governance, solidarity, and shared ambition.”— Hon. Pablo Bereciartua, Chair of GWP
This marks a historic opportunity to shape global water policy for a water-secure world. It is part of the Global Transformation Agenda on Water Investments that GWPO and its Regional Water Partnerships are embarking on — which seeks to leverage at least US$15 billion in water investments by 2030, backed by an initial mobilisation of US$500 million in support of the achievement of water security in the Global South. This represents a bold new chapter in global water cooperation.
By joining GWPO, Sponsoring Partners demonstrate the unity and resolve required to tackle the water crisis. Multilateral cooperation and mutual accountability are the bedrock of the Global Transformation Agenda – every Sponsoring Partner’s contribution counts, and together we will uphold the highest standards of good governance, transparency, integrity and impact.
About the Global Water Partnership Organisation (GWPO)
GWPO is a trusted intergovernmental institution with a 25-year legacy of uniting governments, development banks, and civil society to drive water investments that deliver real results.
