About Global Water Partnership-Eastern Africa

The Global Water Partnership Eastern Africa (GWPEA) is one of the thirteen regional networks of the Global Water Partnership (GWP) serving the Eastern African region. It was constituted in 2003 by stakeholders to support the sustainable development and management of water resources at all levels in the region. GWPEA works with governments across nine countries, that is; Burundi, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, and Uganda, partners, and Country Water Partnerships to advance water security and climate resilience across Eastern Africa.

Guided by the GWP Strategy 2026–2030, GWPEA promotes Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), strengthens governance systems, and supports regional cooperation on shared water challenges.

The Secretariat, hosted at the Nile Basin Initiative in Entebbe, coordinates programmes, partnerships, and knowledge that help countries plan, invest, and collaborate for a more water-secure and climate-resilient region.
