GWP-C’s 2026 AGM Highlights Key Achievements and Sets Direction for the FutureĀ

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing water security and climate resilience across the Caribbean, following its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Grenada on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

The meeting brought together partners and key stakeholders both in person and virtually, provided an opportunity to review the Partnership’s achievements since its last AGM in 2022, reflect on institutional progress, and chart a strategic path forward under renewed leadership.

A key outcome of the meeting was the election of six members to an interim Steering Committee, marking an important transition in the Partnership’s governance. The newly elected members are Sharon Archie, Cyprian Gibson, Alphonsus Daniel, Magnus Williams, Zilta Leslie and Dr. Ronald Roopnarine. They will work alongside continuing Steering Committee members to help guide GWP-C’s strategic direction and strengthen regional engagement.

In opening remarks at the meeting, outgoing Chair Professor Paulette Bynoe called for renewed collective action toward the partnership’s vision of ā€œa water-secure Caribbean,ā€ emphasizing stronger governance, meaningful partnerships, institutional sustainability and closer integration of water security with climate resilience, agriculture, public health, energy and economic development; as the meeting marked a transition in the leadership for the GWP-C, with the organisation electing an interim Steering Committee to strategically guide the operations and provide support to the organisation.Ā

Presenting on the organisations accomplishments from 2023-2026, the organisations Regional Coordinator Dr. Roxanne Graham Victor identified progress made in key areas including policy, governance, project implementation, regional engagement and institutional strengthening. Among the notable achievements was GWP-C’s contribution to the development of the CARICOM Regional Action Framework for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), alongside regional consultations and six country-led IWRM mini action plans aimed at strengthening national water governance. The Partnership also advanced knowledge exchange and capacity development through initiatives such as the Caribbean Water Science Symposium, regional training and stakeholder engagement activities, and expanded water and climate education targeting schools, young professionals and community stakeholders.Ā

A significant development has also been the transition of five courses under GWP-C’s Water Academy for Youth (WAY) programme to the GWP Water Knowledge Hub, creating opportunities for more accessible, self-paced learning in integrated water resources management and climate resilience.

She also highlighted the organsiation’s role in making practical investments in water security in:

  • Monserrat- through the rehabilitation ofĀ  Lawyer’s Spring in Montserrat, restoring production of more than 132,000 gallons per day for 582 residents;Ā Ā
  • Barbados- collaboration with CERMES, to implement a nature-based greywater treatment system at Walker’s Reserve, that achieved approximately 46% phosphate removal;Ā Ā
  • Grenada, to implement an irrigation improvement initiative in Grenada involving dam rehabilitation, a four-mile feed line and water storage to support 16 farmers.Ā

During the AGM, the organisation also noted two memoranda of understanding signed in 2025 with the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), to strengthen collaboration on water security and public health, and with the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM) to advance sustainable land and water management, drought mitigation and climate resilience.

Another significant milestone included the GWP-C’s successful reaccreditation for 2026–2030. The reaccreditation recognized the partnership’s governance arrangements, financial management and transition planning, while creating opportunities for joint delivery with the Global Water Partnership Organisation.

With renewed governance arrangements, an expanding portfolio of regional partnerships and a growing focus on implementation, GWP-C remains committed to supporting Caribbean countries and communities in building a more water-secure and climate-resilient future.
