Global Water Partnership Central Africa (GWP-CAf) works to ensure a water-secure future for the region by promoting sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient water management. As part of the global Global Water Partnership network, we support countries and partners in addressing water challenges through collaboration, innovation, and strategic investments.
A Multi-Stakeholder Platform for Action
At the heart of our work is our role as a neutral and inclusive platform. We bring together:
- Governments and public institutions
- Civil society organisations
- Research and academic institutions
- Development partners and donors
- Private sector actors
This multi-stakeholder approach enables dialogue, coordination, and joint solutions to complex water challenges across the region. By connecting over 200 partners across Central Africa, we facilitate cooperation at national, regional, and transboundary levels.
Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience
Climate change is intensifying water-related risks such as droughts, floods, and ecosystem degradation. GWP-CAf supports countries to:
- Integrate water security into National Adaptation Plans (NAPs)
- Develop climate-resilient water projects and investments
- Strengthen early warning systems and risk management
- Improve drought and flood management strategies
Through initiatives like the Water, Climate and Development Programme, we help build technical capacity and unlock financing for climate-resilient solutions.
Promoting Gender Equality in Water and Climate Action
We are committed to a gender-transformative approach in water and climate resilience. This means:
- Ensuring women’s voices are included in decision-making
- Addressing the specific vulnerabilities and needs of women and marginalised groups
- Building capacity for inclusive planning and implementation
Our work has supported the integration of gender considerations into national climate adaptation processes, ensuring that solutions are equitable and effective.
Strengthening Water Governance
We support governments and regional institutions to improve water governance by:
- Developing and implementing water policies and strategies
- Supporting institutional reforms and coordination mechanisms
- Facilitating regional cooperation and transboundary water management
Our work contributes to stronger governance frameworks that enable sustainable water use and long-term development outcomes.
Catalysing Investments in Water and Climate
A key part of our work is helping countries access and mobilise financing for water and climate priorities. We:
- Support the preparation of bankable water and climate projects
- Facilitate access to funding mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund
- Promote investment planning for water security and resilience
By bridging technical expertise and financing opportunities, we help turn plans into impactful projects on the ground.
Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing
We strengthen the capacity of stakeholders across the region through:
- Training and technical support
- Knowledge exchange platforms
- Regional dialogues and learning events
Our approach ensures that solutions are locally driven, evidence-based, and scalable.
Driving Collective Impact
GWP-CAf is more than an organisation – it is a regional partnership for action. By convening diverse actors and aligning efforts, we help countries:
- Address water scarcity and climate risks
- Achieve sustainable development goals
- Build resilient communities and ecosystems
Together, we are working toward a Central Africa where water security is ensured for all.
