Kindia, Guinea – The Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA), in collaboration with the National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the National Directorate of Hydraulics, organized a validation and review workshop from 2 to 6 November 2026 at the Masabi Hotel in Kindia. The workshop focused on the inception reports, concept notes, Readiness Needs Assessment (RNA), Private Sector Engagement Strategy (PSES), and the Climate-Resilient Water Investment Programme (CRWIP) for Guinea.
The workshop was officially opened with remarks from representatives of GWP West Africa, the National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund, and the Deputy National Director of Hydraulics, who reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening climate resilience in the water sector and mobilizing sustainable investments for the benefit of the people of Guinea.
Speaking on behalf of GWP West Africa, Sidi Coulibaly emphasized the importance of the process being undertaken under the framework of the African Water Investment Programme (AIP). He noted that the increasing impacts of droughts, floods, and climate variability require countries to improve their preparedness and pursue more ambitious investments in the water sector.

Consolidated Technical Contributions
Over the course of five days, representatives from public institutions, the private sector, civil society, academia, and development partners reviewed the strategic documents prepared under the Africa Water Investment Programme (AIP) Readiness Project.
The discussions enabled stakeholders to gather and consolidate inputs on:
- Concept notes aimed at mobilizing climate finance;
- The Readiness Needs Assessment (RNA);
- The Private Sector Engagement Strategy (PSES);
- The Climate-Resilient Water Investment Programme (CRWIP) and its financing strategy.
An Important Step Toward Mobilizing Climate Finance
Key outcomes of the workshop included the validation of the technical directions outlined in the inception reports, the strengthening of draft strategic documents through stakeholder feedback, and the development of a roadmap for the next phases of the CRWIP development process.
The discussions also helped identify the institutional, technical, and financial challenges facing Guinea’s water sector, as well as priority investments capable of enhancing water security, climate resilience, and the country’s socio-economic development.
Towards a Portfolio of Climate-Resilient Investments

The workshop strengthened coordination among key national stakeholders and contributed to building a shared vision of the investments required to address Guinea’s water and climate challenges. The inputs collected will be used to finalize the various strategic documents and prepare a credible investment portfolio capable of attracting large-scale public and private financing.
This activity forms part of the multi-country Africa Water Investment Programme (AIP) Readiness Project, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which supports several African countries in the development of climate-resilient water investment programmes.
