The event, themed “National Water Network, Century’s Scroll,” aligns with the 34th World Water Day and the 39th China Water Week. Yang Shijun, deputy director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Water Resources, delivered a keynote address.
The event was co-hosted by the Hunan Provincial Water Conservation Office, the Hunan Provincial Department of Water Resources, the Changsha Municipal People’s Government, the Ningxiang Municipal People’s Government, and the Ningxiang Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee. The Professional Committee on Water Rights and Water Markets and the Hunan Provincial Water Resources and Hydropower Research Institute served as co-organizers. Over 300 representatives from provincial departments, local governments, industrial parks, enterprises, and universities attended the ceremony.
The ceremony presented a report on the province’s water resources during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). The data revealed significant progress in water conservation, with total water consumption remaining stable and water use efficiency improving across industrial and agricultural sectors. Hunan has received top marks for three consecutive evaluations under the State Council’s strictest water resource management system.

An AI virtual ambassador, “Shui Bao Xiangxiang,” unveiled the year’s campaign activities. These include educational outreach in rural areas, schools, and enterprises, as well as a volunteer program for university students to explore the Dongting Lake ecosystem. A joint initiative was also announced, calling on industrial parks to promote water recycling and adopt advanced water-saving technologies.

The event concluded with a flag ceremony for volunteer service teams and a preview of Changsha’s preparations to host the 2027 “Water Conservation China Tour,” signaling the next phase of the province’s commitment to sustainable water management.
