The global initiative led by the World Meteorological Organization and the Global Water Partnership
Duration : 2013 – until now
Funding mechanism: International and EU-funded programmes (incl. regional and EU projects)
Status: Ongoing
The Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) is a global initiative led by the World Meteorological Organization and the Global Water Partnership, supporting countries in the transition from reactive drought response to proactive, risk-based drought management. The programme promotes integrated approaches to drought preparedness through policy development, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and practical tools. Within this global framework, the regional programme IDMP CEE has implemented numerous activities across Central and Eastern Europe (LINK to past regional activities) and continues to be carried forward through several ongoing EU-funded projects.

Project objectives :
- Promote integrated and proactive drought management approaches at national and regional levels.
- Strengthen institutional and technical capacities for drought risk management.
- Support the development of drought policies, strategies, and planning tools.
- Facilitate knowledge exchange and sharing of good practices across countries.
Role of GWP CEE in the project:
GWP CEE coordinates and supports the implementation of the IDMP CEE regional programme by facilitating regional cooperation, capacity-building activities, and stakeholder engagement. GWP CEE contributes to translating global IDMP principles into regional and national practice and ensures continuity of IDMP results through the implementation of follow-up EU-funded projects in the region.
