Duration : 1 October 2022 – 30 September 2026
Funding mechanism: Horizon Europe – HORIZON-CL3-2021-DRS-01-02
Status: Ongoing project

Climate change is resulting in an increase in the frequency and intensity of natural disasters. Global climate-related disasters have almost doubled in the first 20 years of this century. The EU-funded The HuT project will address the growing challenges posed by climate change-induced extreme events like forest fires, droughts, heatwaves, landslides, floods and storms. To promote trans-disciplinary risk management tools and approaches, the project will use cutting-edge disaster risk reduction solutions. It will also integrate the best practices and successful experiences of leading European institutions and stakeholders. Scientists, technicians, practitioners, policymakers, and local communities will work together on 10 demonstrators of events associated with climate extremes.

  • The HuT develops innovative, climate-aware disaster risk reduction solutions by integrating multidisciplinary expertise and best practices across Europe. Through ten multi-hazard demonstrators, it co-produces and tests trans-disciplinary risk management tools with scientists, practitioners, policymakers, and local communities. The project focuses on prevention and preparedness, ensuring solutions are transferable, scalable, and effective across diverse climate extremes and time horizons.

Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe is leading Work Package 5 on transferability and scalability of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) solutions. GWP CEE develops the project’s amplification framework, documents how innovations travel across contexts, and coordinates cross-demonstrator learning and replication pathways. It facilitates International DRR Nexus Forums, field visits, and innovation fairs to connect science, policy, and practice. By synthesizing evidence from all demonstrators, GWP CEE is responsible for delivering the Replication Roadmap, ensuring the HuT solutions can be adopted beyond pilot sites and have a lasting European and international impact.
