Clear Driving Aims

GWPEA supports and facilitates inclusive consultation processes among diverse stakeholders at the regional, national, and local levels. Our driving aims are multi-dimensional and interconnected:

  • Enhancing community livelihoods through sustainable water use, management, and protection of water-related ecosystems;
  • Promoting Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) as a practical and policy-relevant approach that fosters coordinated development and management of water resources for sustainable development;
  • Strengthening dialogue and the regional knowledge base by providing neutral platforms, networks, communication tools, and knowledge products that support evidence-based decision-making and catalyze change in policy, practice, and mindsets;
  • Building institutional and individual capacities for effective planning, piloting, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of IWRM policies, strategies, and programs at regional, national, and local levels;
  • Advancing targeted advocacy by engaging policymakers, power brokers, media, academia, and civil society actors to influence water and climate-related policies, strategies, and public discourse.

Collectively, these efforts aim to shift perceptions of water from an infinite resource to a finite and strategic asset, and from fragmented, single-actor interventions to inclusive, systemic, and participatory approaches involving water users, planners, and decision-makers at all levels.
