Concerns over water scarcity and the need for financing the sustainable management of water resources tend to be understood and valued disproportionately in the region

Despite rising water demand, urbanization, population growth, and climate risks, water and climate financing remain under-prioritized in many national budgets. This is particularly evident in countries perceived as water-abundant.

Encouragingly, water financing has gained prominence in discussions on the Sustainable Development Goals, signaling growing recognition of water as a development priority. GWP-EA continues to support countries to mobilize and align financing so that sustainable water management becomes a core element of national development agendas, no longer an afterthought.
