Geographic Scope

The Geographical Scope of GWPEA covers 9 countries in Eastern Africa, the IGAD region, and along the River Nile Basin. 

Through regional integration, the Country Water Partnerships in the nine countries work to promote, develop, and manage water, land, and related resources to maximize economic and social welfare in an equitable manner to enhance the sustainability of vital ecosystems. 

GWPEAf works with these country water partnerships to address water security issues and environmental challenges such as droughts, floods, food insecurity, climate change, and water insecurity. 

The countries include:

  1. Ethiopia 
  1. Kenya 
  1. Rwanda 
  1. Somalia 
  1. Sudan  
  1. Uganda  

GWPEAf has over 200 partners working in each of these countries. 

The GWPEA Secretariat is hosted at the Nile Basin Initiative in Entebbe, Uganda. 

The Regional Secretariat (RS), headed by the Regional Coordinator, is responsible for the administrative work and execution of programs and support to the Partnership at the regional and country levels. It provides the secretarial work for all the organs of the Partnership. It represents the Partnership at the meeting of the Country Water Partnerships.
