The Danube Sturgeon Task Force (DSTF) is a transboundary coordination platform established under the EU Strategy for the Danube Region to support the conservation and recovery of native sturgeon species. As flagship species, sturgeons are key indicators of river connectivity, ecological integrity, and long-term river basin health.Â
GWP CEE participation as an Executive Committee member, and an Observer enables direct contribution to strategic coordination, priority setting, and alignment of conservation actions across the Danube Basin. This role supports the integration of species conservation objectives with broader river restoration, connectivity, and nature-based solutions of agendas. Engagement in DSTF strengthens transboundary cooperation and contributes to knowledge exchange while linking biodiversity protection, water and sediment management, and policies implementation at basin and European levels.Â
