The River Restoration Commission (Komisia pre hodnotenie projektov revitalizácií vodných tokov) was established by decision of the Minister of Environment of the Slovak Republic in 2022 to support implementation of river revitalisation measures under Component 5 of the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic. The Commission operates as an expert body responsible for defining evaluation criteria, assessing revitalisation studies and project proposals, approving priority river sections for restoration, and overseeing project preparation and implementation. Its work is guided by national policy objectives and by the Methodological Guideline for the Revitalisation of Watercourses, issued by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic, which provides practical guidance on planning and implementing river restoration measures with an emphasis on restoring natural river processes and applying nature-based solutions . Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) is directly represented in the Commission and participates in its meetings, where it provides expert views on selected projects, particularly on technical aspects of river restoration and the design and application of nature-based solutions. Through this role, GWP CEE contributes specialist expertise to the professional assessment of proposed measures.
