Short project description: WaterInnEU was a two-year research and innovation project whose main objective was to create a virtual marketplace to facilitate the exploitation of the results of EU-funded projects in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT) related to water management. The project collected tools, models, protocols, and policy briefs and made them available as open solutions for water management. The marketplace also supported the exchange of knowledge between researchers, policy makers, and entrepreneurs.
Project objectives:
- To collect the results of previous EU-funded projects and make them available as tools supporting the implementation of the Water Framework Directive.
- To assess the level of standardization and interoperability of ICT solutions and data platforms to enable integration and reuse.
- To create an open-source virtual marketplace that connects existing platforms (e.g. Water Knowledge Portal or EIP Water Online Marketplace) and provides a space for the exchange of information and products between researchers, businesses and river basin managers.
- To support knowledge exchange between actors (not only technological but also practical) through pilot case studies and workshops.
Role of GWP CEE in the project: GWP CEE was an active partner in the WaterInnEU project, coordinated by the CREAF Centre in Spain, and was involved in several key activities. GWP CEE coordinated the testing of the project solutions in the pilot river basins of the Maritsa and Scheldt rivers and ensured the identification of relevant actors in these regions. The organization also contributed to the connection between theory and practice, including the testing of e-learning modules and the preparation of workshops, and was involved in the integration of the results into the IWRM Toolbox, thus supporting the uptake of the project outputs by the wider water management community.
