Short project description: The project aimed to strengthen drought preparedness and climate change adaptation in Armenia through targeted knowledge transfer from Visegrad countries. It focused on promoting integrated and proactive drought management by combining scientific expertise, policy experience, and practical tools developed in the V4 region. Key activities included the development of a Drought Management Platform and the delivery of a multi-day training workshop for Armenian decision-makers and experts. The project supported a shift from reactive drought response towards preventive planning, enhanced institutional cooperation, and increased awareness of drought risks and management options in Armenia.
Project objectives:
- Transfer V4 knowledge and best practices on integrated drought management to Armenia in response to climate change impacts.
- Establish a Drought Management Platform to centralize data, tools, case studies, and expert resources relevant to drought monitoring, assessment, and mitigation.
- Build capacity of Armenian decision-makers, experts, and institutions through targeted training and stakeholder engagement to support proactive drought planning and governance.
Role of GWP CEE in the project: GWP CEE had the role of project coordinator, responsible for overall project management, coordination of partners, and delivery of key outputs. Also, the design and implementation of the project concept, ensured compliance with International Visegrad Fund requirements, and managed administrative, financial, and reporting tasks. GWP CEE coordinated the development of the Drought Management Platform, compiled and transferred drought-related knowledge from V4 and Southern European countries, and led communication and dissemination activities. It also organised online project meetings and contributed expert input to training workshops, ensuring effective knowledge transfer, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability of project results.
