Joint efforts to increase water management adaptation to climate changes in Central Europe

Duration: March 2020 – February 2022
Funding mechanism: Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme (2014–2020)
Status: Completed project

Short project description: TEACHER-CE addressed increasing climate change impacts in Central Europe, such as droughts, floods, heat waves, and extreme precipitation, which require better coordinated risk prevention and adaptation in water management. The project developed an innovative, integrated toolbox to support climate-proof water management planning and decision-making. By harmonizing and building upon results from previous EU-funded projects, TEACHER-CE strengthened the capacity of public authorities and stakeholders to prevent and manage climate-induced water-related risks through transnational cooperation and local-level action.

 Project objectives:

  • Develop and validate an integrated framework of tools for climate change adaptation and water-related risk prevention
  • Strengthen institutional and stakeholder capacities to apply climate adaptation tools in practice
  • Promote integrated and participatory water management involving municipalities, regional and national authorities
  • Support climate-resilient planning processes at river basin, regional, and local levels

Role of GWP CEE in the project: GWP CEE contributed its expertise in participatory water management by organizing workshops and trainings, coordinating stakeholder consultations, and supporting the development, testing, and validation of the CC-ARP-CE Toolbox to ensure its applicability in real-world planning processes.
