Short project description: The project addressed increasing drought risks in Kosovo caused by climate change, limited surface water availability, and growing pressure on groundwater resources. Implemented under the SlovakAid funding mechanism, the project aimed to support sustainable water management through integrated drought management measures at national and river basin levels. The initiative focused on strengthening planning, institutional capacity, stakeholder cooperation, and practical tools to mitigate drought impacts, contributing to climate resilience, environmental protection, and socio-economic development in Kosovo. 
Project objectives: To support sustainable water management and economic development in Kosovo through integrated drought management interventions in response to climate change impacts.
Specific objectives:
- Improve water resources management systems affected by drought through the development and application of mitigation measures
- Strengthen technical capacities of institutions and professionals to manage drought risks
- Increase public awareness and understanding of drought impacts on water resources through education and knowledge exchange
The role of GWP CEE in the project: GWP CEE acted as the project leader, responsible for overall coordination, strategic guidance, and delivery of project outputs. GWP CEE led the development of analytical studies, drought mitigation measures, and the Kosovo Drought Action Plan, while facilitating stakeholder engagement, capacity-building activities, and knowledge exchange. The project was implemented in close cooperation with national partners to ensure alignment with ongoing policy processes and long-term sustainability of results.
